A few years ago, the central government launched the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) scheme at a very low premium. This month’s premium is only Rs 1 per month, i.e. Rs 12 per year. In case of death due to accident or complete disability, the government pays two lakh rupees to his nominee

As on March 31, 2019, more than 150 million people were covered under the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana. The scheme aims to benefit the poor who cannot afford an expensive insurance policy. Previously the scheme was only for laborers doing hazardous work. But now it is open to everyone.

People between the ages of 18-70 can apply for PMSBY scheme. It is mandatory to have a savings account to avail the benefits of the scheme. In case of death due to accident or murder, the policyholder's nominee gets the sum assured. Apart from this, claims are also found in case of permanent complete disability. On committing suicide, the policyholder's nominee will not get Rs two lakh. Temporary partial disability is also not covered in this scheme.
Keep this in mind as well

You will have to deposit Rs. 12 per annum for the scheme. If the premium is not paid on time, the policy is canceled and not renewed.

Auto debit is done directly from the premium bank account. The policy is canceled when there is no premium amount in the bank account. If your bank account is closed for any reason, the policy may be canceled in that case.
